Before we step into the new year together, I want to share a story I have never told publicly in this way — a story that marked the beginning of one of the biggest personal transformations of my life.
It happened on my 60th birthday on the 10th January 2022.
It was an ordinary day in the way ordinary days often hide extraordinary gifts.
Ben was outside hedge-trimming, the gardens alive with summer noise, and the house held the comforting hum of people coming and going.
And then something unusual occurred.
A cormorant appeared.
Not from the sky, not gliding lightly over the river, but walking — slow, deliberate, purposeful.
It made its way up the gravel driveway from the bottom paddock, passed through the hedge maze without fear of the trimmer buzzing beside it, and continued its steady pilgrimage straight to my kitchen window.
There it stopped.
It looked in.
And it locked eyes with my cat Rastus, who calmly returned the gaze, as if acknowledging a visitor on sacred business.

It stayed there for ages, not wanting to go anywhere else.
Eventually Ben wrapped it up in his jumper, and we took it down our dam, where Ben gently released it into the water.
It didn’t look impressed, and after a while, it turned its back on us and walked off into the distance.
It was a strange occurrence.
I knew it meant something to me (since it was my birthday), but I wouldn’t fully understand the message for years.
The Cormorant Was Me — Before I Knew Myself
Cormorants are deep divers, comfortable descending into dark waters to retrieve treasures others cannot reach.
In some cultures, fishermen tie a cord around their necks so the birds cannot swallow the fish they retrieve.
They bring up the gifts, but cannot receive them.
And that was me.
For decades, I had dived deep into trauma, healing, intuition, and the unseen layers of the psyche, bringing back transformation for others but rarely tasting the nourishment myself.
I lived in service, but not always in self-connection.
My spiritual “neck,” in a symbolic sense, had been tied by over-responsibility, by conditioning, by duty, by the identity of the helper.
The cormorant was a mirror I wasn’t ready to recognise yet.
Even With All My Achievements … I Had Not Yet Claimed Myself
When I look back, it amazes me.
By the time that bird showed up on my doorstep, I had already become a three-time bestselling author, rebuilt my body after catastrophic injuries, regenerated organs that medicine had given up on, and learned to walk again on a body that should never have recovered.
I had walked on uncharted territory — literally and metaphorically — creating healing pathways that didn’t exist before I carved them with my footsteps.
I had guided thousands through trauma, illness, and emotional collapse.
I had built the Purple House from nothing, survived what should have ended me, and created a life of purpose and resilience.
And yet…
- I still had not claimed my space.
- I still had not inhabited my true self.
- I still had not dropped into the deepest part of my being.
- I still had not allowed myself to occupy my own lane — the lane only I could walk.
My greatest transformation, the one I had longed for all my life, had not yet happened.
Years Earlier, Spirit Had Already Tried to Warn Me
In a meditation long before the cormorant arrived, I had heard a voice, unmistakable, direct, echoing through every cell of my body:
“Claim your space. Take what’s yours. Claim your space. Take what’s yours.”
I heard it clearly.
I just didn’t know how to live it.
I was still shaped by the needs of others, still giving without receiving, still diving without swallowing, still believing that my worth came from how much I offered instead of how deeply I inhabited myself.
The cormorant was the beginning of that awakening.
The Universe Cannot Support What We Do Not Claim
This was the heart of the message.
The Universe responds not to exhaustion, sacrifice, or goodness, but to clarity and sovereignty.
It supports the woman who says “yes” to herself, not the woman who waits for permission.
It fills the space we claim, not the space we leave empty.
The moment we declare ourselves, life rises to meet us.
And at 60 years old, I realised that even with all my achievements, I had never truly declared myself.
That moment began a journey that eventually led me back to university, the completion of my Masters, the writing of my 30,000-word dissertation on generational trauma, the beginning of my PhD, the creation of the Miracle Method, and a level of embodiment I had been seeking since the day I first opened the doors of the Purple House.
New Year 2026: The Call Now Becomes Yours
If the cormorant taught me anything, it was this:
- The Universe cannot support what you have not claimed.
- It cannot fill a space you refuse to occupy.
- It cannot strengthen a lane you are not standing in.
- When you finally claim your lane, the Universe can support you in ways you always longed for.

This year, I invite you into the same shift.
Not driven by urgency, but by resonance; not motivated by fear, but by recognition; not forced, but chosen.
Because the life you want cannot reach you while you stand outside of yourself.
If 2026 Is the Year You Intend to Come Fully Into Your Lane…
Then I want to gently remind you that our next Miracle Method Immersion will take place from 28th February to 7th March 2026 in Forth.
If the cormorant story stirred something inside you…
If you sense that you’ve been diving for others and are finally ready to receive your own gifts…
Then this immersion is one of the most potent places to begin.
There are limited places, and they tend to fill quickly, so if your body leans forward as you read this, you can explore the details here: www.themiraclemethod.com.au
My Blessing for You in 2026
May you walk into this new year like the cormorant, by staying in your lane with courage, steadiness, intention, and inner guidance.
May you take up your rightful place.
May you claim your space without apology.
May you receive the gifts your soul has been diving for.
And may you remember:
The Universe cannot fulfil a destiny you have not claimed.
But the moment you do … everything begins to rise to meet you.
