You had to resort to giving from ‘bones, organs or blood’ because your cup was empty.

These are all symptoms of being a ‘classic caretaker’.
Perhaps you resonate with the above, but you still don’t think you fall into the category of caring too much for others and neglecting yourself.
So let me ask you a question:
If you were told to give yourself your undivided time and attention for one hour per day, starting tomorrow….. what would that bring up in you?
If you came home with a scrip from the GP to do nothing for one hour a day….
This could mean sitting in front of the window looking out over the garden for 60 minutes
Or resting on your comfy bed, just relaxing and chilling out…
Or grounding yourself by lying on your back on the grass outside, allowing Nature to recharge you..
For these 60 minutes, you are DOING nothing at all, you are practicing being a human BEING.
What comes up for you when you read this?
You might think Grada has gone crazy, I don’t have time for this!
Or you might feel like throwing your arms up in the air, feeling exasperated because deep down you know this is just what the Doctor ordered, but I can’t do this, that’s only for such and such, not for me, I am so far behind with my job list.
Besides, somebody has to come up with the money / time / goods!
What was the reaction in your body?
Be really honest and sit with your feelings.
It will tell you something about yourself!
Transformation is all about becoming aware of your own blind spots, which show up when you hit a threshold…
For instance when you are asked to do something for your own good, and you make it impossible.
When you are constantly pushing yourself or berating yourself for not being good enough, or doing enough, life loses its colour.
It loses its fun.
And ultimately, it becomes somewhat meaningless.
The truth of the matter is that most of us mistreat or neglect ourselves.
Happiness can often elude you if you are in the habit of ignoring your own needs and wants and prioritizing others, always giving out and not actively receiving.
Actively receiving is an art and a practice, which I teach to my clients and students in healing sessions and programs.
For now, just remember that you need to ask.
Ask the Universe for what you want and keep asking.
You don’t need to be ready, worthy or in harmony with what you want, in the same way that a little child doesn’t wait until it’s worthy before it asks for an apple.
A little child asks all day long, and it receives all day long.
There is an energy circuit between the parent and child, and it strengthens and grows from all the asking and receiving.
It’s the most natural phenomena in the world but once we become adults, we stopped believing in the power of asking and made it complicated.
So, one way to restore the circuitry between YOU and the Universe is by ‘requesting’ which simply means, asking over and over and over again.
Now, let’s get back to 7 powerful steps to connect with your inner joy, boost your happiness and become resilient, no matter what life throws at you.
Step 1 – Take ownership of your happiness.
Happiness is an inside job; you are the one in control of your happiness levels.
Did you know your body has a happiness set point?
Yes, this is true, in the same way that your body has a temperature set point.
If you get too cold you start to shiver.
If we get too happy (for our setpoint) we can get sick, trip up in a relationship, or destroy something good.
That will bring us back within the bounds of our happiness setpoint.
Now the body feels safe again.
Not happy, but safe and comfortable.
(If we have trauma in our body, we will continually sabotage our happiness, because we are more used to pain than happiness, and this is why everyone needs regular healing sessions)
In short we can only tolerate as much happiness as our set point allows us to.
Some people are always happy, no matter how difficult life is.
Perhaps you know somebody like that, but these humans are far and few between.
Most of us are set between 4 and 6 out of 10. (10 being 100% happy)
Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could wake up at an 8 every day, regardless of the weather, the political or economic climate or the welfare of your kids?
It’s true that for most parents, you can only be as happy as your unhappiest child.
This used to be me for many years, until I stopped myself! (see step 2)
So the reality is that we can dial up our happiness thermostat, and you can start today by implementing some of these steps.
Once your body gets used to a new level of inner happiness, you will find that your lows will never be as low, and your highs will be much higher.
For instance, now when you take a holiday, you won’t get sick like you always do, you will actually really savour every moment of your holiday because something inside you has made a switch.
And, you did it yourself because YOU COULD.
You retired from being a VICTIM of circumstances.
A victim will ask “Why this is happening TO me?“
If you want to be happy in life, you need to step away from victim mentality, where blame, shame and complaining take centre stage.
Begin asking: “Why is this happening FOR me?‘ and the Universe will begin to share wisdom, strength and happiness with you.
Remember that you are a Divine Being, who Volunteered for this experience, you are NOT a Victim.
Being a victim leads to FEAR which is short for FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL.
You are too precious to waste your life in low lying fear patterns.
When you acknowledge that you have the power to change your life, you lay the groundwork for lasting happiness.
You are no longer at the mercy of circumstances; you are the architect of your life.
Step 2 – Invest time and money into learning how to think properly.
Measurable brain activity isn’t the same as having a healthy, happy, successful thought processes.
The truth is that nobody has been taught how to think properly.
Only 5% of humans are geared for success and happiness and they had to train themselves to get there.
Did you know that the most successful entrepreneurs, spend 80% of their time working on themselves, shaping their health and wealth mindset, and only 20% of their time working in or on the business?
The more your business or family grows, the more you need to devote yourself to clarity of thought and mastering your emotions.
Our thoughts shape our reality, and the mind is a powerful tool that can either work for us or against us.
Research shows that 80% of our thoughts are negative, which can keep us trapped in cycles of worry, fear, and dissatisfaction.
Worrying about your unhappiest child (there will always be one) prevents you and them from growing and expanding.
It doesn’t serve you or the person you worry about.
Not worrying doesn’t mean you are callous or heartless.
It can mean that you are looking for solutions, or asking for help from a trusted source, or shifting your focus away from your worry child (this could also mean your business, bank account or any prime source of worry) and onto all the things you can be grateful for today.
The ultimate truth is that you can’t serve two masters or two levels of energy very long.
You can’t serve the energy of worry and the energy of happiness.
But here’s the good news—you can change even the most chronic inherited addictive compulsive worry patterns today.
Start by noticing when negative thoughts arise and gently replace them with thoughts of gratitude.
Notice the abundance you are surrounded by.
You have running water and plumbing.
Many people today have more wealth than royalty of old.
We are just taking it for granted.
We got used to having running water, TV, cell phones, the internet (which contains all the information you could ever wish for), paved highways, our cars and electricity.
Only a century ago people had to travel by horse and cart or horse and buggy.
Now you can fly around the world and be plied with hot meals while you are at it.
Count your many blessings every day and you will become congruent with a high happiness set point.
Over time, this simple practice leads to a profound shift in your mindset.
Step 3 – An open heart is a source of endless joy, love, and compassion but chances are you have been hurt so often and so deeply that you have blocked the flow of love in your life—both giving and receiving.
The biggest happiness hurdle is unresolved trauma and because of this, it’s often easier for you to look after others rather than looking after yourself.
Shifting the attention to yourself can bring up guilt, sickness, unworthiness, deep shame, restlessness, feelings of failure or confusion.
The way forward is to treat yourself with as much kindness, compassion and patience as you can muster.
Stop being your own bully and seek help from someone who can take you by the hand.

Simple practices like getting enough sunlight, eating nourishing foods, and regular movement can drastically improve your mood and energy levels.

When you take time each day to rest in stillness, by BEING and not DOING, making yourself the focus of attention, you remind yourself that you are more than just your thoughts, your body, or your circumstances.
You are a divine being, capable of creating a miraculous life.
The more you stop, and take time out, the easier it becomes to connect with your true self and to receive from the Universe.
Step 6 – Know what you want and align with your inner purpose.
When you live in alignment with your purpose, you create a life that is not only successful but deeply fulfilling.
Most people only know what they DON’T want and keep focusing on that, so they get more of what they don’t want.
A life of true sustainable happiness remains out of reach.
You can be different to the 95% of humans who are stuck in autopilot.
Knowing what you want requires inner work, through journaling, deep questioning and listening to your intuition.
A great practice you can do today is writing down what you DON’T want, or notice what is NOT working for you today, and in a column next to it, you write down what you want instead.
Keep clarifying your hearts true wished and desires.
You only have one life, and you don’t want to be missing out on your souls’ purpose because you felt obligated to live your parents, spouses or other people’s dream for you.
Your dreams, hopes and wishes matter!
Step 7 – Surround yourself with people who are life enhancing and inspiring.
Who do you surround yourself with?
Are they lifting you up or dragging you down?
The people you allow into your life have a significant impact on your happiness.
Surround yourself with those who inspire you, support you, and encourage you to be your best self.
If there are people who drain your energy—it may be time to gently weed them out.
Choose wisely who you give your energy to.
